Incident Involving Louisiana Woman and Sheriff’s Deputy
A woman from Louisiana made headlines after a swimming escapade went awry, culminating in her alleged assault on a sheriff’s deputy. The episode unfolded following a trespassing complaint that was lodged on Tuesday, according to authorities.
The Union Parish Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a residence in Marion last November. A caller had informed them of a neighbor, later identified as Erin Elizabeth Sutton, who was standing in the driveway, yelling, and refusing to leave despite earlier warnings.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Sutton swimming nude in a nearby pond on the property in question. She explained her unusual behavior to a deputy, claiming she was “trying to become a mermaid.” It seems that her whimsical reasoning didn’t resonate well with law enforcement.
Eventually, after persistent requests, Sutton exited the water. Given the frigid conditions, emergency medical services were called to assess her health. As a deputy attempted to escort her back to her home for warmth, she reportedly lunged at him.
The woman disregarded several commands and resisted arrest. Despite the deployment of a Taser, it proved ineffective. Sutton reportedly fought back, striking the deputy until he managed to take her into custody. She was then taken to a hospital for further evaluation, during which she allegedly threatened law enforcement and paramedics.
In light of her actions, deputies sought a warrant for her arrest, which a judge in the Third Judicial District Court signed. Sutton finally turned herself in on January 6, 2025, facing multiple charges, including three counts of resisting an officer, two counts of public intimidation, and others related to disturbing the peace and trespassing.
Her bail was set at $62,000. As of now, there hasn’t been a response from the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding additional comments. It’s unclear whether Sutton has secured legal representation.
