A 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister were arrested in Florida after they allegedly drove away in their mother’s car in the middle of the night after she took electronic devices.according to local news outlets KBTX, the brothers were stopped by police on the highway around 3:50 a.m. on Thursday, September 21st. They were surprised to see a 10-year-old boy driving the car and his sister sitting in the passenger seat. The car had been reported stolen from Northport.
Their mother had filed a missing persons report.
The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office said the brothers were upset because their mother took away their tools. Police said it is believed the equipment was taken because the children were “not using it properly,” the report said.
Police said in a Facebook post that the white sedan had been reported stolen and the children were found during a “high-risk traffic stop.”
“We learned that the brothers had been reported missing to the Northport Police Department and that the stolen car belonged to their mother,” the post said.
Police also said they called the children’s mother, who told her she did not want to press charges, and drove three hours north to Alachua County to protect the boy and girl.
Police social media posts included two photos of children getting out of the car with their hands raised. The police department hid his face in the image to hide his identity.

A police officer told the program that the driver may have been arrested on suspicion of driving without a license. However, the officer added that this was a misdemeanor traffic violation and would not result in detention in a juvenile facility.
“Detectives spoke extensively with the mother,” the sheriff’s office said. NBC News. She was “clearly doing her best to raise her two young children and was very receptive to the recommendations they provided for receiving support.”
