An explosion that destroyed a home in north-central Utah early Wednesday morning was caught on camera, killing a woman.
Wild video footage captures a fireball quickly engulfing an apartment complex in a residential area of American Fork just before 6 a.m.
The thunderous explosion lit up several city blocks, shook surveillance cameras at nearby homes and set off several car alarms, a video shared. 2KUTV program.
The explosion completely destroyed the two-family home and caused significant damage to surrounding buildings, including blown out windows and melting the garden fence.
At least two women were inside the building at the time of the explosion, one of whom was found dead in the rubble around 8 a.m. when firefighters extinguished the fire.
Her identity was not immediately released.
The second woman was safely evacuated from Room 2 of the residence. Her condition was not clear.
A pet dog was also found several hours after the explosion, having pulled itself out of the rubble.
“When he came out of that house, I was like, ‘Where did he come from?'” American Fork Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Bosshardt told KSL TV.
“It was unbelievable. It looked like it was wet and covered in insulation and debris.”
Dominion Energy Services acknowledged that it had performed “routine maintenance in the area” the day before the explosion, but would not say whether it was related to the incident.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the explosion.
