Mississippi Woman Shoots Teen Intruder
Over the past weekend, a woman in Mississippi shot and killed a 15-year-old who broke into her home. Police later detained the alleged accomplice of the intruder.
According to Jackson police, around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, two men donned in ski masks entered an apartment at the Park at Inverness complex on Ridgewood Road. The woman, sensing danger, grabbed a handgun and fired multiple shots, hitting one of the intruders.
That masked individual fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead at the scene, with the coroner confirming he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. When authorities arrived, they found remains within the apartment, as reported by WAPT.
The second suspect, an 18-year-old named Quintavion Miles, fled the scene but was located and arrested later that day, according to WLBT-TV. The deceased suspect was identified as 15-year-old Kayden Young.
Following the incident, the woman was taken to police headquarters for questioning but was released afterward. Officials stated that the shooting could be justified under the state’s Castle Doctrine, which allows homeowners to defend themselves from intruders.
Miles was processed at the city’s jail and appeared in court later that week. While he was granted a $150,000 bail for the burglary, he was denied bail on a murder charge. Jackson Police Chief Tyree Jones remarked that both suspects could be deemed responsible for the death due to their collusion in the crime.
The findings of the police investigation will be forwarded to the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office, which will assess if the case should go before a grand jury.
Jones also emphasized the need for young individuals to contemplate their choices, highlighting the tragic consequences that can arise from poor decisions. “We need to use this as a cautionary tale for the youth,” he stated.
Resident Tre Ingram expressed little sympathy for either Miles or Young, saying, “Honestly, they got what they deserved. They broke into her house; she had the right to protect herself.”
