New York City Police are searching for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman while she was sunbathing in Central Park on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., police were dispatched to the area of Central Park following a report of an attempted rape against a female victim.
Police said a woman in her 20s was sunbathing alone in a secluded area of the park when a black man, believed to be in his 30s, approached her and began stripping naked.
Officials said the woman tried to get up and run away, but that’s when the man attacked her from behind.

Police say she was able to fight off the man and he ran away.
The woman was then taken to a local hospital for examination.

Police are searching for the suspect, described as black, in his 30s, about 6 feet tall, with a medium build, curly hair and wearing a light-colored shirt and shorts.

Authorities said they would continue to maintain a heavy police presence around the park as they continue to search for the suspect through CCTV footage and in areas around the park.
