Woman Warns About Consequences of Plastic Surgery

A woman is sounding the alarm about cosmetic surgery, claiming that her recent nose job has drastically altered her appearance for the worse.

Wendy Macias, 36, hailing from Los Angeles, California, has struggled with insecurity regarding her nose since childhood. It all began when her brothers teased her at just five years old, dubbing her “Narizona,” which translates to “big-nosed girl” in Spanish.

After grappling with these feelings for years, she finally opted for a rhinoplasty earlier this year, hoping to boost her confidence.

However, upon seeing the results, she quickly felt she had made a grave mistake. “I missed my old self immediately,” she shared, noting that she fell into a deep depression in the weeks that followed her surgery.

Wendy’s regret has grown since, making it difficult for her to even look at her own reflection.

She is now determined to advise others about the significant emotional impact that comes with altering one’s appearance surgically.

Wendy recounted her experience during a conversation, mentioning that she traveled to Tijuana, Mexico, for the procedure, which cost her around $6,640. Initial results were obscured by swelling and bruising, but the feeling of not recognizing herself was quite unsettling.

While bandages hid her new nose, the doctor captured images while she was still on the operating table and later presented a comparison of her before and after looks. Wendy recalls the moment: “I immediately realized I had made a huge mistake.”

She noted that the doctor had altered her nose tip to a much higher position than she preferred. “I didn’t want a child’s upturned nose,” Wendy explained. “I sought a subtle, straight curve with a tip that aligned with the ground when I smiled.”

The days following her surgery were especially tough; she described them as “miserable,” facing pain that made basic activities like eating and breathing challenging.

“I was so sleep-deprived, bruised, and swollen,” she reflected. The discomfort made it painful to eat or drink, and she could only manage light soups and smoothies. The healing cuts added to her unease, leading to a constantly dry throat and a feeling of nausea.

Beyond physical discomfort, the emotional burden was heavier. “I slipped unknowingly into a deep post-op depression,” Wendy shared.

“I cried for an entire week,” she recalled, feeling an overwhelming sense of sadness bolstered by a lack of self-acceptance, despite reassurances from loved ones.

Wendy expressed, “I can’t look at mirrors from any distance even now.” She has started viewing this experience as a lesson in forgiveness and self-love as she tries to accept her new self.

She conveyed deep guilt for changing something that was a defining feature for her throughout her life and voiced shame for bowing to societal pressures. “A nose job is a profound change impacting every aspect of your well-being,” she asserted. “Your mind may not even recognize your new reflection as real,” she added.

Critically, she accused her surgeon of neglecting to inform her about possible post-operative repercussions such as depression, which worsened her feelings of regret.

Wendy’s advise to individuals considering surgery is clear: “Don’t rush into decisions when you’re emotionally vulnerable. Engage with your friends and family; you don’t have to go through this alone. Research thoroughly; don’t just rely on social media portrayals of surgeons’ work.” She cautioned, “Understand the risks—there are many!”
