Weight loss often feels like a tough challenge filled with strict diets and intense workouts. However, sustainable changes frequently stem from small, consistent lifestyle adjustments. Recently, a woman named Hayleigh, who managed to lose 45 kg in 18 months, shared her journey on Instagram. In her post, she revealed five habits she used to think were “dumb” but realized were actually hindering her progress. By letting go of these habits, she found significant improvement.
1. Walk your way
Hayleigh believes walking is “the most underrated form of exercise.” She swears by dedicating 30–45 minutes to walking, preferably outdoors, to enjoy fresh air and give her mind a reset. For an added challenge, she suggests using a weighted vest or listening to a favorite podcast.
2. Drink enough water
Staying hydrated was transformative for her. She tries to drink about half her body weight in ounces each day; for instance, a person weighing 200 pounds should aim for approximately 100 ounces. This habit not only reduces cravings but also increases energy levels. She mentions including electrolytes once a day for an extra boost.
3. Eat protein
Protein, in her view, is essential for keeping her full and aiding in fat loss. She aims for at least 100 grams daily, which helps manage hunger and promote muscle development—important for burning fat. Her approach? Simple and straightforward.
4. Start mornings intentionally
Having a purposeful start to the day is another impactful habit for her. Whether it’s exercising, meditating, or just being present, she recommends not using a phone for the first 30 minutes after waking. According to her, trying this for two weeks can lead to lower stress levels, better sleep, improved focus, and greater mental clarity.
5. Include fibre
Fibre is also a key component of her diet. Hayleigh follows a basic rule of eating three servings of vegetables daily. This helps with digestion, keeps her feeling full, and assists in processing carbohydrates, which she affectionately refers to as a method to “keep the scale scaries away.”
