Woman stabbed at Miami International Airport, prompting evacuation of hundreds

A man stabbed a woman at Miami International Airport on Saturday night, sparking fears of a gunman inside the terminal and leading hundreds of other travelers to be evacuated as a precaution, authorities said.

The woman was stabbed outside the secured area on the fourth floor of Terminal J at around 11:30 p.m.

Detective Angel Rodriguez, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, said the man tried to throw the woman over a fence, but she was able to escape. Officers arrested the man without incident and recovered the weapon, he said.

Rodriguez called it an “unfounded argument,” but police have not said whether the two knew each other. Police say the woman suffered multiple stab wounds and was hospitalized in serious condition.

Rodriguez said some tourists mistakenly thought there was an active shooter as officers arrived, but police said officers were able to determine no shots were fired.

The attack happened outside the airport’s secured area, but an airport spokesman said all passengers in Terminals J and H were evacuated as a precaution and then re-opened for security screening, the Miami Herald reported.
