Woman who blamed boyfriend’s death on home invaders now charged in his murder

Authorities in California have arrested a woman who was initially believed to be the victim of a home invasion that led to her boyfriend's death, on suspicion of murder.

Pleasanton police announced the arrest of Kennedy Stith, 27, on Sept. 12 as part of the investigation into the death of her boyfriend, Edevion White, 32, whose body was found on May 1, 2023, in the 5700 block of Owens Drive.

Authorities said in a statement that the 27-year-old I lied at first She blamed her boyfriend's death on two men wearing balaclavas who broke into her apartment and killed him, KTVU reported.

“However, through a year-long investigation, Pleasanton detectives determined that this allegation was untrue,” they wrote.

She was then charged with murder on Friday by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Authorities allege Stith killed White by stabbing her in the chest at her apartment at Owens and Rosewood streets, according to reports.

On Friday, Pleasanton police arrested Stith on suspicion of murder and said she made up the home invasion story.

According to Pleasanton police, Stith was “manipulative, abusive and controlling,” KTVU reported. According to the report, Stith allegedly forced her boyfriend to sell drugs to pay bills.

“The City of Pleasanton extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Edevion White and is working closely with them during this difficult time,” police said. “We appreciate the patience and cooperation of local residents during this investigation and remain committed to keeping our community safe.”

Police say Stith is being held without bail at the Santa Rita Jail.
