A woman from Colorado sadly lost her life after being struck by a stray bullet while at home. Jennifer James, aged 49, was shot in the chest on April 28. Despite calling 911, she unfortunately did not survive, and first responders were unable to save her.
James’s life had already been marked by struggle; she had been fighting breast cancer for two decades, having been diagnosed when she was just 29. Reports indicate that she was undergoing treatment once again at the time of her tragic death.
Authorities arrested 20-year-old Ebenezer Worku, who allegedly fired the fatal shot. According to the details in the arrest affidavit, Worku claimed his handgun discharged accidentally while he was outside James’ house. He did not realize that the bullet went into her home, assuming it had hit the wall instead, since he believed the curtains were closed at the time.
Worku, who also faces charges of first-degree murder due to “extreme indifference,” is currently being held on a $1.25 million bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, James’ daughter Ashley shared her heartbreak with local reporters, stating, “I don’t think this will happen to you.” Friends and family are rallying around her children, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $63,500 to support them. Loved ones are remembering James fondly, describing her as a “micron of Sunshine.”
