A woman with a severe dairy allergy died days after eating a tiramisu advertised as 'vegan', leading to an investigation into the dessert manufacturer.
Anna Bellisario, who was 20 years old at the time of her death last year, went out to dinner with her boyfriend at a vegan burger chain restaurant called Flower Burger in Milan, Italy, on January 26, 2023, and at that time she ordered “Tiramisu.'' I ate a dish called “.Masherpa, Italian Corriere della Sera newspaper reported.
Bellisario, a fashion student, said she checked the tiramisu label and asked for “more information” about the desert before eating it.
After eating just a few spoons, she started coughing and had trouble breathing. She tried to vomit and took her asthma medication and cortisone, but she eventually went into anaphylactic shock and lost consciousness.
She remained in a coma for 10 days at Milan's San Raffaele Hospital and died on February 5, 2023. She has had a dairy allergy since her birth and she had visited the restaurant before. The Mirror reported.
A mother and daughter who run a pastry company that supplied ready-made tiramisu to Flower Burger and 63 other restaurants are currently being investigated for manslaughter, according to Corriere della Sera newspaper.
The Post has reached out to Flower Burger for comment.
Italian insider revealed The company was a pastry company, just like Tiramisun when we reported on the incident last year.
After the incident, Italy's Ministry of Health ordered a recall of the “vegan” tiramisu because it suspected it contained milk.
Traces of milk and milk protein were found in Tirimisun brand tiramisu products, and traces of eggs were found in the mayonnaise on the sandwich Bellisario ordered as an appetizer, the Mirror reported.
It is thought that Tiramisun may have been “conflated” with a vegan pastry production line and a dessert containing milk. According to Metro.
Judge Fiametta Modica called the incident “an alarming case of imprudence.”
The Post was unable to reach Tiramisun officials for comment.
