On a Sunday morning, the body of a woman was found floating in the East River near busy Queens Park.
Police responded to a 911 call about an unconscious person underwater near Fort Totten on Cross Island Boulevard and Totten Road around 11:15 a.m., a NYPD spokesman told the post.
When officers arrived they found an unresponsive woman who appears to be around 45 years old. The EMS worker declared her death on the scene, officers said.
Pedestrians first discovered their bodies floating along a rocky coastline near the popular jogging path that passes through the heart of Little Bay Park near the Throgs Neck Bridge, sources said.
The white Mercedes E-Class with New York plates was parked about 50 yards away.
On Sunday, medical examiners determining the woman's cause of death took photos of the inside of the car before walking to her body.
The car's white leather interior was marked with blood, including the driver's pool, sources said.
Police withheld the identity of the woman who has been holding family notice.
Locals were shocked by the optimistic scenes of the normally quiet neighborhood.
“I lived here for the rest of my life and never saw a crime scene here,” said Max, 48, from nearby Whitestone.
“This is terrible. Is there a corpse next to a jogging pass and a car with blood above the door? My daughter asked if she was filming a movie.”
“That doesn't make sense,” he continued. “This is a busy place, especially on Sundays. Everyone comes here to ride their bikes, rollerblades and go for a walk with their dogs.”
“It's insane that this is in the middle of here.”
