Kentucky Woman Charged with Felony Mischief in Car Damage Case
A Kentucky woman’s mug shot went viral after she reportedly admitted to damaging her ex-boyfriend’s car, claiming she was “stressed.” Stephanie Carlquist, 31, allegedly caused significant harm to the vehicle, which included pouring salt into the engine, breaking the tires, shattering the rearview mirror, and damaging the windshield.
Facing first-degree felony mischief charges, she managed to post a $12,000 bail and has been released pending further proceedings. Interestingly, the damage occurred over a two-week span, from July 6 to July 20, and was estimated at $12,464, rendering the car “beyond repairs,” according to a complaint that referenced evaluations from Goodyear repair shops.
In an email to her ex-boyfriend’s mother, Carlquist reportedly admitted to some of the damage. She said, “The only thing I did was put sparkles in the air vents and damage the windshield. He was late for the oil and motors and everything else. Ah, and the tires.” She even offered to pay for the damages and suggested giving her own car to her ex-boyfriend.
While Carlquist mentioned feeling stressed during the incident, there were complexities involved—her father attempted to intervene, hoping to prevent her from facing felony charges. In a message to her ex, he expressed, “I’m sure Stephanie can come to a better solution…” It raises interesting questions about family dynamics and responsibility in such situations.
As this case unfolds, it’s clear that both emotions and actions can lead to unexpected consequences. It seems that stress might have played a role here, but one can’t help but wonder if there were other underlying factors at play.
