Women’s Soccer Team Changes Name After Transgender Backlash

The Boston-based National Women's Football League (NWSL) team has changed its name after the transgender community reacted negatively to the team's marketing campaign.

Since then, the abandoned marketing campaign featured the slogan “Too many balls.” The slogan was filled with a hard blow from the trans community, including a Seattle-reigned trans player named Quinn. Yikes” on Instagram.

In response to the backlash, the team closed its campaign in October and announced an apology to the trans community.

“We fully acknowledge that the content of the campaign does not reflect the safe and welcoming environment we strive to create for everyone, and we apologise for the hurt we have caused to the LGBTQ+ community and especially the trans community,” the statement said.

The team not only removed the marketing campaign, but also decided to move on from the proposed franchise name, Bos Nation FC.

“The club expands with sincere thanks to our supporters. Its passionate voice is deeply valued not only for their unwavering support, but also for honest and critical feedback.”

“We were unable to complete this process without input. We aim to build a lasting legacy that will make all our fans welcoming, connected and proud to wear our colours and cheer on our names for future generations.”

Opposition to trans-inclusion in women's sports has steadily grown to the point of recent New York Times/Ipsos Opinion survey It turns out that 79% of Americans are opposed to allowing men to compete with women. Not only that, but polls found that 67% of Democrats are opposed to allowing trans athletes in women's sports.
