Women’s Sportswear Co. Backed by Riley Gaines Banned from TikTok for Defending Women’s Sports

A women’s sportswear company endorsed by former NCAA swimmer Riley Gaines has been banned from TikTok for advocating for women’s sports.

Jennifer Say, founder of XX-XY Athletics and former president of Levi Strauss & Co., informed X’s followers that her company had been permanently banned from the China-backed social media platform TikTok.

“If you run an ad advocating for women and girls sports you will be permanently banned from @tiktok_us. Here is that ad. Offensive right?” she asked X fans.

The video ad features a voiceover that says, “If you believe equality for girls and women is important, stand up. If you believe girls and women’s sports are important and want your daughters to have the same opportunities you had, stand up. If you know it’s not fair or safe to allow boys to participate in girls’ sports because, well, it’s obvious, stand up.”

“Don’t be intimidated by people who call you a bigot. You are not a bigot,” the ad continues. “Don’t let men tell you how to be a ‘good’ girl. Don’t sit back and let others tell you to be nice. It’s not okay to spread lies. It’s not mean to believe in women’s equality. We have a right to our sports, our privacy, our fairness, our safety. We have a right to the opportunity to compete and win. So don’t be nice. Don’t be careful. Be honest, be brave and fight for women. We’ve come too far now to give up. If you agree with that, stand up and stand with us.”

Say also posted a ban notice she received from TikTok, which said her ad “features objectionable content and violates TikTok’s advertising policies.”

In another post by X, Seyi wrote, “Speak up. Stand up. Vote with your money. Don’t buy brands that don’t know what it means to be a woman. The truth is counting on you.”
