Ali Krieger, who won two World Cups with the U.S. women's national team, opened up about his divorce from his wife and former soccer teammate Ashlyn Harris in a recent magazine interview.

According to Page Six, Krieger and Harris divorced in September after four years of marriage. Harris reportedly wrote in court documents that their marriage had “irretrievably broken down” as the two reached an agreement over financial issues and custody of their adopted child.

She told Self Magazine that she found out about the divorce filing during practice during the 2023 season with Gotham FC of the National Women's Soccer League.

“The whole team came to the dance the night the news broke. I'll never forget that moment,” Kreiger told the magazine. “I noticed it during training. I was on the field, I came off the field and I was in the locker room, and I was obviously devastated.”

Krieger said his teammates were at home until about 2 a.m. ET that day.

“Over the past five months, my friends have shown up in ways I will cherish and remember forever,” she said. “These are my real people. It's so rewarding to see that, because even with personal friends, you never know how much of an impact you have. And they When the shows up for you, you're just like, 'Oh, thank God. ”

There were rumors that Harris had been unfaithful in his marriage, which he denied in a statement in November.

“A few weeks ago, a process that had been going on privately for some time became public. After nearly 13 years of friendship, team-mates, marriage, and co-parenting (many of which were good years), we are in a relationship. “It was not a decision taken lightly to end it,” she said in part. “We agreed to put our children first, continue treatment, separate and move on with our lives.

“Not all marriages last forever. Ours didn't. For a variety of reasons. Let me be clear: I never overstepped in my marriage. I was always completely happy. Even if I wasn't, I was always faithful to my marriage.”

Krieger and Harris tied the knot in 2019 after initially keeping their marriage a secret. The two won the Women's World Cup together in 2015 and 2019, and have played together professionally since 2013 on four different teams, including the Swedish club.

In 2020, the pair admitted it was “difficult” to get married as teammates.

“We don't get to spend quality time together. We have to make time even though we see each other all the time. It's difficult,” Harris said. He told Allure at the time:added that they rarely even room together when playing.
