Wonder of the Seas hurries back to Miami following fight near children's pool

Passenger Injured in Brawl Forces Cruise Ship to Return to Florida

Authorities report that a large Royal Caribbean cruise ship had to turn back to port in Florida after a passenger was injured during a violent altercation.

What began as a minor argument near a children’s pool escalated into a full-blown fight between two passengers aboard the cruise ship, which had just set sail from Miami on Monday.

“There was a verbal disagreement between two physically robust individuals,” stated the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office. The captain opted to make a U-turn back to the port and notify law enforcement.

Both individuals were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, as per police reports. Interestingly, a spokesperson indicated that they couldn’t release any further details about the passengers.

Images from the scene depicted at least one person being carried away on a stretcher.

The specifics of the injuries are still unclear.

The cruise ship, referred to as Wonder of the Seas, had only just departed on Monday afternoon, intending to cruise through the Bahamas and return by Friday. It was scheduled to leave Miami again that same night.

With a sprawling length of nearly 1,200 feet and an overall capacity for around 7,000 passengers along with 2,000 crew members, Wonder of the Seas is among the largest cruise ships globally.

Royal Caribbean stated they are currently cooperating with local authorities and are unable to provide further comments.

“Our team is rendering medical assistance to adult guests who were involved in the incident, and those in need are receiving treatment for their injuries,” a representative explained.

They added, “We’ve informed local authorities and are collaborating closely with them. Since this is an ongoing investigation, we can’t disclose more details at this moment.”

Interestingly, the confined settings of cruise ships often seem to provoke unruly behaviors among passengers. In fact, back in August, another cruise ship from Miami experienced a brawl, rumored to be sparked over some buffet chicken tenders.
