The Houston Texans are heading to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers this Saturday, with a playoff spot on the line. They’ll need running back Woody Marks back in action, as he sprained his ankle in Week 15 and couldn’t play against the Raiders in Week 16. Although he didn’t participate in the first two practice days that week, he showed up for a limited session on Friday and was listed as questionable in the final injury report. Jauhar Jordan stepped up, while Nick Chubb filled in as a backup.
This week, Marks participated in all three practice days and has been cleared from the injury report. It sounds like he’s ready to go for the game.
Now, let’s dive into the fantasy football perspective concerning Woody Marks and the Texans’ running backs for Week 17.
Fantasy Football Analysis: Woody Marks, RB, Texans
Chubb and Jordan might see some action behind Marks, but he’s clearly the main guy. If the Texans are running the ball in Week 17, it will likely be Woody Marks getting the carries. He’s hit double-digit points six times in PPR leagues, and four times in standard leagues. His standout performance was in Week 4, where he rushed for 69 yards with a touchdown and also caught four passes for 50 yards and another touchdown.
In his last game, Week 15, he had seven carries for 30 yards and one catch for eight yards before his ankle injury took him out. He was on the field for just 15 plays before getting injured. Previously, during Week 14, he logged 61 snaps, which accounted for 87% of the team’s offensive snaps—a career-high in both total and percentage this season.
Will you start or join a Week 17 fantasy football league?
It’s a bit of a fringe start situation. This isn’t a strong call for either Standard or PPR leagues. Marks hasn’t been heavily involved in the passing game recently, with only six catches over the last five games. He tends to perform better in standard leagues, but even that is shaky. With just three touchdowns this season, it’s hard to feel optimistic about his potential. Although his ankle seems fine now, he may lack some rhythm with Chubb and Jordan sharing the workload. In this weekend’s Fantasy Football Championship Game, expect Marks to be an RB3 at best.
