World Athletics to Introduce ‘Pre-Clearance’ Sex Tests for Female Athletes

World Athletics president Seb Coe will introduce a non-invasive “pre-clearance test” for female athletes amidst conflicts over male participation in women's sports.

The test includes a cheek swab or dry blood test, and is used once only in athlete carriers. According to Athletics Weekly, testing will soon be available for the World Championships this September.

“It's important to do that, especially recently, not just about the integrity of women's sport, but also about ensuring it,” Coe said. “I feel this is a truly important way to provide confidence and maintain an absolute focus on competitive integrity.”

“We stubbornly protect the female category and do whatever it takes to do it,” he added.
