Thousands of fans gathered at one of the world’s iconic beaches for a two-day World Cup celebration, symbolizing optimism for the upcoming 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This event was part of the Los Angeles World Cup 26 Fan Zone in Venice Beach. Matches for the quarterfinals will take place on July 10th and 11th.
During the Venice Beach festivities, there were several activities including 10 official fan zones scattered across Los Angeles County, as detailed by FIFA.
“We had more than 5,000 attendees both days, and we expect a similar turnout tomorrow. It felt amazing to see community partners like Metro and Councilor Tracy Park here. Plus, when Rio Ferdinand took the stage and sang ‘Sweet Caroline,’ it was a memorable moment,” event producer John Bessant shared.
City Councilor Tracy Park expressed that “Venice Beach has showcased what is achievable. The official FIFA World Cup Fan Zone has invigorated local businesses, united the community, and offered an exciting glimpse of what the LA28 Olympics may hold.”
In recent years, Venice Beach’s tourism has faced significant challenges, but the World Cup event has rekindled hope among community members and officials.
A local business owner reminisced, “I’ve operated here for about 20 years. I even closed my shop last year due to a decline in tourists. This weekend has marked a return of visitors to Venice. It’s a vital opportunity for local businesses, setting us up for success as we approach the Olympics, although there’s definitely room for improvement.”
The 2028 Olympics will occur in Los Angeles, from July 14th to July 30th, followed by the Paralympics from August 15th to August 27th.
The Venice event showcased three quarter-final matches displayed on large LED screens, with live music and a DJ performing between games.
General admission to the events was free on a first-come, first-served basis, while VIP experiences were also available.
