Oliver “Power” Grant, a founding member of the iconic hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has passed away at the age of 52.

Fellow Wu-Tang member Method Man shared the news of Power’s death on Instagram on February 24th, posting a picture of them together. He expressed his grief, saying, “Paradise, my brother can travel safely!! 💔💔🤬 #pookie #power Bruh I’m not okay.. 🌧️.” The details surrounding his passing remain unclear.

This tragic news surfaced just before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame revealed that Wu-Tang Clan had been nominated for this year’s honors.

The hip-hop site OK Player honored Power with a heartfelt message on its Instagram, calling him a “visionary entrepreneur and co-founder of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan.” They acknowledged Power as a leader in one of hip-hop’s most influential movements, crediting him with building a global legacy steeped in independence and culture. His vision for creative control and community empowerment was crucial in shaping the group into a dynasty that forever transformed music.

“His influence will live on through the culture he elevated and the countless lives he inspired,” the message stated.

Power’s contributions were vital to Wu-Tang’s acclaim and helped define the hip-hop scene of the 90s. He produced tracks for the group and was the founder of the clothing line “Wu Wear.”

Members of Wu-Tang Clan include RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Some of their well-known tracks are “CREAM,” “Protect Ya Neck,” and “Triumph.”

GZA also expressed his sorrow over Power’s passing, remarking, “Without him we could not have done it. Without Power, Wu could not have succeeded. His death is a deep loss to all of us. My deepest condolences to his family.”
