WWE star Matt Cardona shares how the Danhausen lab incident transformed him

Matt Cardona’s Encounter with Danhausen on SmackDown

During last week’s “Friday Night SmackDown,” WWE star Matt Cardona made an intriguing attempt to get Danhausen to “break the curse” as Danhausen entered Cardona’s lab. Surprisingly, Cardona seemed taken aback by Danhausen’s tools, momentarily channeling his Zack Ryder persona. Interestingly, The Miz and Kit Wilson had a similar experience on the show the previous month.

In a recent discussion, Cardona expressed his bewilderment following this encounter, saying, “Ever since the shock in the Danhausen lab, he’s been acting strange. I’m still having my first cramp. I live in Florida now, but I have this urge to go back to Long Island. I was chanting ‘Woo!’ I don’t know what’s going on.”

Danhausen has quickly become one of the standout names in WWE since debuting at the Elimination Chamber in February. His merchandise is flying off the shelves, and he reportedly brings victories to teams by “not cursing” them, as seen with the New York Knicks and Carolina Hurricanes.

Cardona speculated that Danhausen would see even greater success if he joined WWE. “I followed Danhausen’s career in the indies. I’ve wrestled him before,” he shared. “This guy is a self-made superstar, just like me, and I knew if he got a shot in WWE, he could shine. I didn’t expect it to reach this level. He’s truly mainstream now, and I’m really excited for him.”

Character-wise, Danhausen brings a unique vaudevillian flair to the ring, branding himself as “very good, but very evil.” He has a knack for delivering curses to those who wrong him.

Speaking about his own character, Cardona noted, “My character embodies the ‘E’ in WWE. Because at the end of the day, this is entertainment, World Wrestling Entertainment, and Danhausen is entertaining. He appeals to everyone, from kids to adults. He can do a bit of everything, including serious wrestling alongside his comedy.”

Since his return earlier this year, Cardona hasn’t racked up many wins. That’s partly why he sought out Danhausen to lift what he referred to as a “curse.” Reflecting on his performance, he admitted, “To be honest, I haven’t done very well. Check out my win-loss record; it wasn’t the best. That’s why I asked Danhausen for help. Things seemed to work out for the New York Knicks. What about another New Yorker? I’m thankful to be back.”

Cardona reminisced about his time on the indie scene, acknowledging it as a high point in his career but stressing the ultimate goal: “The objective is to be WWE Champion, and you can’t achieve that if you’re not in WWE. So I knew I had to return.”
