Windham Clark is as confident as any golfer you’ll meet on the PGA Tour. He has previously stated publicly that “with the utmost respect” he believes he is better than Rory McIlroy.
That confidence was on display again on the eve of Tiger Woods’ Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.
When asked about his professional goals, Clark had no answer.
“I don’t want to put limits on myself. I want to work hard to become the No. 1 player in the world.” I don’t know when or if that will happen, but if I keep doing what makes me successful, it will happen.” I think it’s possible,” Clark said Wednesday.
Then he was faced with what he needed to do to make that happen.
“I think consistency. I’m similar to Scottie Scheffler right now…I like his consistency and how good of a ball striker he is and how he seems to be in the hunt week in and week out. I’m just amazed at that. That’s something I need to get better at,” Clark said.
“I think we’re doing it in spurts…but I think there are some weeks where we finish 30th or 40th…I just think there’s a lack of consistency. Over the next year or two, we’re going to be on the front page of the leaderboard every week. I hope I can reach a level where I can be listed.”

The reigning U.S. Open champion has exploded onto the scene since winning last summer at Los Angeles Country Club. It happened on the heels of his first PGA Tour victory at Wells Fargo in May.
His play earned him selection to Team USA’s Ryder Cup squad in the fall.
Most recently, Clark set an incredible Pebble Beach course record and won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am two weeks ago.
His great play has helped him reach 6th place in the Official World Golf Ranking. But as he elaborated, consistency is key to achieving the top spot.
Every time I hear Clark speak, I appreciate his calm demeanor and understanding of the game. He is well aware that he is not at Scheffler’s level right now. But I wouldn’t be surprised at all if his unwavering confidence and improved skill set gets him there.
