Wynonna Judd distances herself from supporting Trump following comments from Rosie O'Donnell.

Wynonna Judd was taken aback upon discovering Rosie O’Donnell’s remarks about her political views. The country music star felt compelled to respond after O’Donnell labeled her as a supporter of former President Donald Trump.

In a statement to a publication, Judd expressed her surprise, saying, “I’m in shock, just so you know. I’ve never spoken to her about politics in my life… She doesn’t know anything about my stuff. I’m an independent.”

Judd went on to clarify her feelings: “I don’t know where it came from. It’s complete assumption. I heard it and I went, ‘What the…?’ I don’t ever remember talking to her about this, so she’s just assuming.”

Despite the misunderstanding, Judd mentioned that she wasn’t upset, just confused. She maintained that there was never a conversation that could have led O’Donnell to that conclusion.

Judd stressed her desire to avoid any drama, stating, “I just don’t want drama. So, if there’s going to be drama [about it], I’m like, ‘Oh for crap’s sake, there’s so much going on right now in the world. Can we just love each other?’”

The confusion follows O’Donnell’s comments about their long-lasting friendship during a podcast in August, where she referred to Judd as a Trump supporter, highlighting their ability to put politics aside.

O’Donnell remarked, “I am friends with Wynonna Judd, who I love very much, and I’ve known her for many, many years. And she is a supporter of Trump. And somehow, we never bring it up.”

The comedian elaborated on her views regarding their friendship, recognizing Judd’s challenging past, saying, “I kind of give her a grace in a way. She’s had so much in her life, with her mom taking her own life, and just the complicated nature of her upbringing. And I really love her and I care about her, and for some reason, I’m able to put that aside when we interact.”

This friendship has deep roots, as Judd frequently appeared on O’Donnell’s talk show in the 1990s, and they have stayed close ever since.

Meanwhile, O’Donnell has been an avid critic of Trump, with their exchanges often spilling into the public eye. After Trump’s 2024 election victory, she relocated to Ireland with her child while continuing to voice her thoughts on American politics.
