Wynonna and Ashley Judd Taking a Break
Sisters Wynonna Judd and Ashley Judd are currently “taking a break” from their relationship.
In a recent interview for her People cover story, Wynonna shared that she and Ashley are not “connected” at this moment.
“She’s doing her thing, and I’m doing mine,” Wynonna, who is 62, explained, adding that Ashley hasn’t heard her upcoming album titled “The Hard Truth.”
Ashley’s representative has not yet responded to requests for comment.
This distancing comes four years after the passing of their mother, Naomi Judd, who died by suicide at the age of 76.
While earlier reports suggested tension between the sisters over their mother’s will, Wynonna rejected those claims back in October 2022.
“I have such a great life. Ashley has a great life. Why would we be fighting over the will?” she expressed during that interview.
Wynonna had previously described her connection with Ashley as “connected” and “powerful,” especially following their mother’s death. She noted their vulnerability and tenderness with each other, while also acknowledging that, like many sisters, they have “disagree[d] on so much.” However, they are realizing they “have more in common than [they] don’t.”
Wynonna also mentioned that their careers had separated them at a young age—she was 14 and Ashley was 18—leading to missed time together.
In Wednesday’s discussion, Wynonna didn’t specify whether the relationship ups and downs with Ashley, who is 58, influenced her new album, which she describes as her most “honest and vulnerable” work.
She did, however, indicate that her mother’s influence was paramount in her songwriting. “I think [hearing] it would be very painful for her. Very painful. But I also know that she knows me, that I’m so honest and so up-front,” Wynonna said.
The album references Wynonna’s estranged daughter, Grace Kelley, who is serving a 15-month sentence in Virginia.
Wynonna, who is currently raising Kelley’s four-year-old daughter Kaliyah on her farm with her husband Cactus Moser, expressed, “I miss her desperately.”
She hopes that Grace will “find healing” and encourages her to take a critical look at herself, especially after some issues that have led to repeated arrests.
Wynonna learned from news reports that her daughter was pregnant while in jail—a situation she admits she “know[s] very little” about.
