X brings back news headlines in user posts

Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is reversing changes made by owner Elon Musk and restoring news headlines to users' posts.

Musk announced in October that the social media platform would change the way links to news posts appear in users' feeds. Headings and text that previously appeared with images have been removed.

Most of the linked articles displayed only the article's lead image, with a small link to the outlet's web address in the corner to distinguish it from independent images, The Hill previously reported.

The Hill has reached out to X for comment. Neither Musk nor X Support have posted about this change online.

Musk confirmed in August that he planned to remove the headline, saying the change came “directly” from him and was meant to improve its appearance.

Critics of the change noted that removing headlines makes it difficult to distinguish which news articles users are sharing and where links are directing them.

Now, the changes appear to have been reverted, allowing users to post links, and the heading text now appears in a small font in the bottom left of the image.

Billionaire Musk, who bought the platform last fall for $44 billion, has criticized traditional news organizations and encouraged publishers to post long-form content on the platform rather than through links.
