Social platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has taken the final steps to complete its rebranding by discontinuing Twitter.com.
The site’s URL is now X.com, and users were told about it in a pop-up. The change comes about a year and a half after billionaire Elon Musk bought the company and began making changes.
musk Posted early Friday morning That morning, “All core systems are on X.com.”
When users opened the platform, they saw a message saying, “We’d like to inform you that we’re changing the URL, but your privacy and data protection settings will remain the same.”
The domain change was one of the final steps in Musk’s rebrand. Branding and other changes reflected the company’s new era, but the URL remained his twitter.com.
Musk announced last summer that he would rebrand the platform as “X,” saying the original name no longer made sense. He said it made sense when the site limited user posts to 140 characters, “like a bird song,” but now users can post longer messages and hours of video. said.
Musk said the platform would say goodbye to the “Twitter brand” and “all the birds.” However, he faced criticism when he introduced the new X logo.
Some users criticized the rebranding decision as selfish, arguing that the iconic logo and name took away business that relied on brand recognition.
The transition from old leadership to Mr. Musk and from Twitter to X has been gradual over the past year and a half, but at times has been confusing and exposed to criticism from users, many of whom have left the platform altogether. I swore.
