X melts down after Trump-Musk’s interview ‘Space’ immediately crashes

Critics slammed the technical issues that plagued a highly anticipated interview between X owner Elon Musk and former President Trump.

X users flocked to his “space” where Trump was scheduled to discuss the 2024 presidential election with the billionaire tech mogul. However, the “space” quickly crashed under the influx of users, displaying the message “This space is unavailable.”

Shortly after, Musk appeared on X and told users that “it appears we’re experiencing a massive DDOS attack.” [distributed denial-of-service] Attacks on 𝕏. We are working to stop this. In the worst case scenario, we will reduce the number of live listeners and post the conversation at a later date.”

In response to one X user who speculated that Democrats were behind the tech meltdown, Musk replied, “Yeah, I guess so.”

Musk later claimed that X was technically ready for the Trump interview, posting that he had “tested the system today with 8 million concurrent listeners.”

“We will begin broadcasting to a small number of concurrent listeners at 8:30am ET, and will post the unedited audio shortly thereafter,” Musk continued.

The interview officially began about 40 minutes later, with at least 1 million X users joining the restarted conversation.

Critics have responded to the viral controversy.

“Tell Elon we can’t participate,” billionaire investor Bill Ackman told Trump.

“President Trump was furious when he was kept on hold for 30 minutes because of technical issues at NABJ. Now he’s been kept on hold again, and of course no matter what he says, a lot of the coverage will be focused on the technical issues. He won’t be happy,” Breaking Point co-host Sagar Enjeti wrote.

New York Times reporter Jonathan Swan criticized Musk for previously promising “entertainment guaranteed!”, to which he responded, “Yes, as long as functionality is guaranteed!”

A similar social media meltdown occurred last year at the launch of Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign, when he also scheduled an interview with Musk on his own platform (then Twitter) but experienced technical glitches due to heavy traffic on his “space.”

The interview was meant to mark Trump’s triumphant return to the platform after the company banned him following the Jan. 6, 2021, riots. Shortly after Musk bought Twitter Inc. and renamed it X, he reinstated Trump’s account.
