Actor Sean Ashmore and his wife have spoken out about the tragic murder of her close friend, who was killed by the son of a prominent Hollywood executive.
Samuel Bond Haskell IV, responsible for disrupting May Lee Haskell’s life two years prior, took his own life in prison just days before his trial was set to begin, as reported by the LA District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities confirmed his death occurred hours before he was scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing.
The 37-year-old suspect’s death appeared to be a suicide, as he was found with his phone in his hand early Saturday morning.
Following the news, the “X-Men” actor (45) and his wife, Dana Wasdin (42), shared that they feel a sense of “closure.”
“It’s a heavy heart, but we feel some peace now that there’s a bit of closure,” the couple expressed.
They reflected on the loss of an amazing mother who devoted her life to her three sons, always prioritizing their needs.
The “Rookie” star had been working with law enforcement to support their friends during this difficult situation. They’ve been quite reserved about discussing the case until now.
Married since 2012, the couple formed a tight bond with 37-year-old Mei Li three years ago when their children became friends at school.
“She was incredibly generous and kind. She truly didn’t deserve this,” Dana remarked.
Haskell’s father is a well-known Emmy-winning producer, with clients like George Clooney and Whoopi Goldberg.
In 2023, Haskell was accused of murdering his wife, May Lee, along with her parents, 72-year-old Gao Shan Lee and 64-year-old Yang Xian Wang.
Authorities stated he dismembered their bodies and disposed of the remains in a trash bin in Encino, where May Lee’s body was later located.
Haskell’s in-laws have struggled to cope with the loss, especially now that Haskell’s passing has taken away someone who could shed light on the events that transpired.
All three victims lost their lives on November 6, 2023.
On November 7, Haskell IV was seen hiring day laborers to carry heavy black garbage bags out of his home.
He allegedly claimed the 50-pound bags contained rocks, but the workers became suspicious when they found disturbing contents after stopping a block away.
Upon returning the bags and receiving payment, Haskell told them they contained Halloween props, according to the workers’ account.
He was arrested at a nearby mall and charged with the murders of his wife and her parents on November 8.
