Xavier Worthy Could Return This Weekend
Xavier Worthy might be making his comeback this weekend. The Chiefs’ wide receiver participated fully in practice on Wednesday, setting him up for a potential return on Sunday when they face the Ravens.
After dislocating his shoulder in the season opener against Kansas City, he has been sidelined since week one following a collision with tight end Traviskells.
Last week, Worthy was limited during practice as he prepared for a Sunday night game against the Giants, but ultimately, he was ruled out. Chiefs coach Andy Reid noted on Friday that Worthy looked quick and performed well during practice.
Worthy’s situation brings up mixed feelings. After sustaining the injury, tight end Travis Kelce mentioned on the “New Heights” podcast that he felt terrible about the impact it had on his teammates. He reflected, “It’s frustrating, knowing you’ve caused harm to someone else.” It’s one of those moments that really sticks with you, right?
In his rookie season, Worthy was the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, showing promise with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, plus three rushing touchdowns. During the Chiefs’ playoff run, he made a significant impact, scoring three more touchdowns, including two in their Super Bowl loss to the Eagles.
As Sunday approaches, fans are hopeful to see Worthy back on the field. It’s hard not to be optimistic, yet there’s a bit of hesitation about how he’ll perform after such a significant injury. We’ll see how it all plays out.
