Xavier Worthy Misses Week 2 Action

Xavier Worthy won’t be on the field for Week 2. The Chiefs’ wide receiver has been sidelined for the upcoming Super Bowl rematch against the Eagles after dislocating his right shoulder during last Friday’s season opener against the Brazilian charger.

Worthy sustained the injury in a tough collision with star tight end Travis Kells in the first quarter. Although he returned to practice this week, Coach Andy Reid mentioned that Worthy has only a “slim” chance of playing against the Eagles, but it seems unlikely.

Kells expressed his frustration over the incident, saying, “I felt like—um, well, it was my fault.” He reflected on his accident causing one of his teammates to be taken out of the game, which is quite a blow for any player. “It’s hard to regain your momentum when you know you’ve hurt someone.” He recalled attempting to set things up for his players, but the situation unfolded too quickly.

The absence of Worthy is a significant challenge for the Chiefs, who are also without their key receiver Laci Rice, currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s personal conduct policy linked to a multi-car crash in Texas last year.

Worthy, picked 28th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, made a notable impact during his rookie season. He recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, along with three rushing touchdowns over 17 games. Of course, he also contributed during the Super Bowl, adding three more touchdowns, notably against Philadelphia.
