Fans were buzzing at Yankee Stadium after the Knicks pulled off a thrilling 108-105 overtime victory against the Celtics on Monday at TD Garden.
Although the Yankees’ game faced a rain delay, that didn’t stop fans in the Bronx from erupting with excitement when word spread of the Knicks’ win.
Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay remarked on the noticeable cheers coming from the crowd during the seventh inning.
“You might hear the crowd cheering,” Kay noted, as he shifted the camera to show fans donning Knicks jerseys. “They’re following the game on their phones while watching the Yankees.”
In fact, a brief chant of “Boston Sucks!” could be heard during the broadcast.
But it wasn’t just at Yankee Stadium that the excitement was palpable. Over at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, fans were glued to a viewing party hosted by the Knicks.
Inside MSG, cheers erupted as Mikal Bridges made a crucial play in the final seconds, securing the victory. The celebration naturally spilled out onto the streets as fans exited the arena.
The Knicks made a remarkable comeback, tying the game after trailing by 20 points in the third quarter, ultimately winning in overtime.
Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau praised the team’s resilience. “This team has shown tremendous effort all year,” he said. “We’ve had to deal with various challenges, which builds mental toughness.”
Looking ahead, the Knicks are set to face the Celtics again on Wednesday, leading the series 1-0.
