Yankees’ Aaron Judge not participating in Home Run Derby

Aaron Judge will undoubtedly be in Texas for the All-Star Game, but he won’t be taking part in the Home Run Derby.

Judge announced Saturday that he would not be participating in the event despite leading the major leagues with 28 home runs, his most recent of which was over the right-field fence in the bottom of the first inning against the Braves on Saturday.

“I don’t do that,” Judge said before the Yankees played Atlanta at the stadium.

He added that he had been asked by officials at the event to take part but declined.

“That’s not necessary this year,” Judge said.

When asked if the event was going to end for good, Judge said he would do it again.

“I’m not done yet,” said Judge, who won as a rookie in 2017. “When I get back to New York, I’ll go again.”

Judge and Giancarlo Stanton took part in batting practice on the field before Saturday’s game, a rare occurrence in the Bronx.
