“D” Fall Guy

The pop-up landed in shallow left field between third baseman DJ LeMahieu and shortstop Oswaldo Cabrera. LeMahieu appeared to be underneath it, then turned around and looked at Cabrera, watching it fall between them.

It caught my eye

Former Metropolitan Daniel Vogelbach made a deep strike against Gerrit Cole with a bat flip in the first inning. Cole appeared to be giggling as Vogelbach rounded the bases.

“What day is it today? Is it still February? March 1st?” Cole said later. “Yeah, he had fun with that home run,” Cole said with a grin when asked if he remembered anything about it during the regular season. “I don’t often forget that.”

Saturday schedule

Marcus Stroman will make his second start this spring as the Yankees open the season against the Orioles in Sarasota at 1:05 p.m.
