As President Trump focuses on crime in Washington, perhaps some attention could also go to the local baseball team.
The Yankees just wrapped up a successful series, dominating the Nationals for a clean three-game sweep.
It’s been a bit of a whirlwind with the Yankees lately. They closed out their Bronx games on Wednesday with an impressive 11-2 win. This match showcased Max Fried, six home runs, and a remarkable no-hitter for five innings.
However, they had their ups and downs, specifically closing a homestand against the Red Sox with three losses.
In this latest series, they capitalized on Washington starter Kade Cavalli, hitting four home runs in just 2.2 innings before heading off to Chicago to take on the struggling White Sox. After that, it’s off to face the Astros on Tuesday.
Along with all that power hitting, the Yankees witnessed another solid start from Fried.
The left-hander set down the first 11 batters he faced, and by the time he allowed Riley Adams to walk in the fourth, the team already had a nine-run cushion.
Interestingly, Fried didn’t give up a hit until Jacob Young singled in the sixth, as he seemed to put a recent rough patch behind him.
Yet, easy wins don’t last forever for the Yankees.
Once they arrive in Chicago, they’ll face four consecutive series against teams currently in playoff contention.
Next, the Yankees will host the leading Blue Jays and the Tigers before their trip to Boston, after tackling the Astros.
Recently, they managed to get the job done.
In the bottom of the first, they took the lead thanks to a home run from Trent Grisham.
Unfortunately, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Jasson Domínguez squandered a chance to build on that, with each striking out in the third.
They had some solid moments in the fourth inning, starting with a single from Ben Rice, followed by Aaron Judge’s impressive two-run home run, marking his 41st of the season with a blast that traveled 424 feet.
Cody Bellinger also joined in, hitting back-to-back homers as Cavalli struggled further.
After Chisholm had a walk and a stolen base, Domínguez made his mark with a ground-rule double to right center.
Austin Wells reached via catcher interference, and Ryan McMahon hit his second homer as a Yankee.
Rice added his 22nd RBI of the season, and Domínguez capped the scoring in the third with an infield single.
Wells launched his 18th home run of the year in the fourth.
The Nationals finally showed some life in the sixth with three consecutive singles. Among those was a hit from CJ Abrams, but Fried managed to strike out Riley Adams and induce a double play with Garcia.
