Yankees call up Jasson Dominguez for first time this season

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A youth-focused event, the Yankees brought some special guests to add some extra glamour to their Little League Classic.

Jasson Dominguez was named the team’s 27th player for Sunday’s showcase game against the Tigers at Bowman Field and is expected to start in left field and bat fifth before being demoted to Triple-A after the game.

Teams are allowed to add players to their rosters for special event games during the season, and Sunday was that event, paving the way for Dominguez to join the Yankees for the first time this year.

If the Tigers choose to bench left-handed outfielders Alex Verdugo and Trent Grisham, the switch-hitter Dominguez could soon be in the lineup facing Tigers left-hander Tarik Skubal.

The 21-year-old Dominguez had a strong start last September, hitting four home runs in eight games, but then suffered a torn biceps, requiring Tommy John surgery and delaying his participation in the 2024 season.

The Yankees then demoted him to Triple-A after a rehab assignment, but he tore his oblique muscle just before an injury to Giancarlo Stanton gave him a chance to shine in the major leagues.

Overall, Dominguez appeared in 26 games at Triple-A, batting .280 with a .766 OPS.
