Yankees Gain Momentum with Win Over White Sox
Chicago – This week feels somewhat like a squirrel preparing for winter for the Yankees. They’ve been getting the job done, even if things aren’t always perfect.
The Yankees continued to capitalize on a favorable schedule with a decisive 10-4 victory against the White Sox, marking their fifth win after a recent national sweep. This game kicked off a four-game series at the rating field on Thursday night.
Looking ahead, they’ll face a tougher challenge in the coming weeks, but for now, the Yankees (74-60) made significant strides, hitting three home runs and keeping pace with the Red Sox as they vie for a wild card spot. They also narrowed the gap with the Blue Jays in the AL East race.
Cody Bellinger, Jazz Chisholm Jr., and Trent Grisham each hit home runs, contributing to the team’s success over the last five games, while the Yankees capitalized on the White Sox’s lackluster defense (48-86), which resulted in four unearned runs from a costly error by Anthony Volpe.
Volpe managed to redeem himself with a sacrifice fly and ended the night with a 3-for-3 performance, bouncing back from a less than stellar string of games.
The bullpen, led by Warren, threw five innings while striking out seven, helping secure the win despite a bit of turbulence.
After an impressive six home runs against the Nationals, the Yankees picked up right where they left off, starting the game strong with a two-run homer off Davis Martin.
Chisholm added to the lead with a solo shot, marking his 26th home run of the season, hot on the heels of Bellinger and Grisham as they all trail Aaron Judge in team rankings.
Volpe, who doubled in a key moment, stole two bases and scored on a single from Ben Rice, pushing the score to 4-0.
The White Sox, however, managed to rally, tying the game after an error allowed a crucial run to score. Warren struggled briefly, walking a batter and hitting another before giving up a Grand Slam to Miguel Vargas that leveled the score at 4-4.
Despite the setback, Warren settled down and pitched through the fifth inning, but that unfortunate run lingered in the air.
In the fifth inning, though, the Yankees regained the lead. After Rice hit a single, Chisholm’s grounder caused chaos, allowing Rice to score and putting the Yankees ahead 5-4.
Bellinger followed up with a well-placed hit, allowing the Judge to cross home plate following a sacrifice fly from Chisholm.
As the innings progressed, the Yankees piled on more runs aided by another White Sox error. Ryan McMahon hit a double, followed by Volpe’s sacrifice fly that advanced the score further.
Grisham capped off the impressive showing by hitting another home run, with Paul Goldschmidt adding a sacrifice fly to conclude the game at 10-4.
