Tampa – A day later, Benrice appears to be still avoiding anything serious after being excavated in his left elbow.
The Yankees’ DH admitted he was worried when he was glued to the elbow of his back on a slider during Saturday’s game, but the x-ray and CT scans returned to negative, and by Sunday he had seen some improvements, despite being out of the lineup with the Rays.
“Pretty good,” manager Aaron Boone said before the series finale. “I think he’s getting pretty well after a little worried. [Saturday]. I think the x-rays made his mind a bit reassured that there were no cracks there.
“But he was still pretty hard and painful. [Saturday]even today. But when I spoke to him he was laughing and it felt like he had gotten quite good. ”
Rice still had swelling in his elbow on Sunday morning, so he was expected to receive treatment all day to reduce it.
Boone said he “thinks” he’ll leave Rice during Sunday’s game, but wanted to see what progress he’s made when the day unfolds.
It’s likely he’ll return during the Yankees upcoming series in Cleveland, which begins Monday.
“If it goes well, hopefully [it will] It’s not too long,” Boone said.

Rice said Saturday night he expected it to be days.
Without Rice, the Yankees would slip Aaron’s judge into the DH spot, heading out in the center field against right-handed Ryan Pepiott, and have a hot hit Trent Grisham.
