Yankees Triumph Over Mets in Subway Series
Pete Alonso’s throw to home plate went wayward, allowing a run that gave the Yankees the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. They scored five runs in that inning, ultimately winning the game 8-2 against the Mets, securing the Metro Series rubber match on Sunday.
The Yankees broke a 2-2 tie during the eighth when Jorvitto Vivas reached on a fielder’s choice. With runners on second and third, Alonso’s throw sailed over catcher Francisco Alvarez’s head, letting Jackson Dominguez score.
Paul Goldschmidt contributed with a solid line drive to center, bringing in his second run. Meanwhile, Cody Bellinger made a grand slam that helped curb the Yankees’ offensive surge, finishing the game with six RBIs.
This victory marks the Yankees’ first subway series win of the season, and the two teams won’t face off again until the July 4th weekend.
