Baseball Fans Displeased Over NBC’s Golf Decision

Baseball enthusiasts expressed their disappointment when NBC opted to air golf instead of the highly anticipated Yankees-Red Sox game on Sunday night.

The final round of the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, faced a delay of nearly 90 minutes due to rain. This pushed the PGA Tour event into the baseball time slot, which led to NBC’s decision to air the game only on Peacock and NBCSN initially.

This move ignited frustration among baseball fans, who took to social media to voice their displeasure as they watched NBC solely showcase golf rather than the classic baseball rivalry.

“What’s going on, @nbc? Why are we watching golf instead of Yankees vs. Red Sox? This feels un-American,” one annoyed viewer commented on X. Another added, “Is NBC serious about acquiring Yankees vs. Red Sox rights just to air golf?”

One user suggested that if NBC wants to replace golf, they should tune in to the Yankees instead. Another lamented their lack of local coverage: “@nbc, I can’t get a fly in the New York area, yet you’re prioritizing non-major golf over Yankees vs. Red Sox!”

One fan criticized NBC for showing disrespect toward MLB, stating that prioritizing a non-major PGA tournament over a historic baseball matchup illustrated a lack of respect for the sport.

Adding to the complications, the Travelers Championship didn’t conclude on Sunday either. Scottie Scheffler’s successful putt on the 18th hole necessitated a playoff against Viktor Hovland, set for 9 a.m. on Monday, which will be broadcast on the Golf Channel.

Ultimately, Yankees fans might have wished that NBC had opted to showcase something other than their game. By the time they tuned in at around 8:30 p.m., the Red Sox had already taken a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run single by Caleb Durbin. The tension increased as the Yankees lost 5-4 in a dramatic 10-inning finish.
