Yankees fans booed Vlad Guerrero Jr. after shushing crowd

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. celebrated hitting a home run against the Yankees on Saturday, but Yankees fans weren’t happy about it.

Every time Guerrero hit a home run, he silenced the crowd as he circled third base, he said.

And even though his home run in the seventh inning brought the Blue Jays within six runs, Guerrero continued to celebrate.

“You do it anywhere, no matter the situation,” Guerrero said through an interpreter after the Blue Jays lost 9-8 and the Yankees won their third straight game on Sunday.

Guerrero took some time to reach third place before going through the motions.

Yankees fans loudly booed the Blue Jays’ slugger, who hit a 362-foot home run off Luke Weaver that made the score 9-3.

“His MO is always around No. 3,” Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Saturday. “As I said before, no one boos here in New York.”

The home run was Guerrero’s second of the year, and although his batting average is only .182 and his two RBIs are off both home runs, he said he is starting to feel like himself.

“The quality of my at-bats has definitely improved, especially my last three at-bats,” Guerrero told reporters.

With the Blue Jays still leading by a large margin after the home run, Guerrero’s shot started a Toronto rally that ultimately nearly took the game away from the Yankees.

Toronto added two more runs in the seventh inning on a double by Daniel Vogelbach and a sacrifice fly by Ernie Clement.

Heading into the 9th inning, the Yankees were leading 9-5, but the Jays broke in and scored three runs.

He tried to tie the game at first base, but Clay Holmes struck out George Springer on three pitches, securing the Yankees’ victory.

Guerrero went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in the Blue Jays’ 8-3 loss to the Yankees on Sunday.
