Mariano Rivera Injured During Yankees’ Old Timers Day

Legendary pitcher Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees reportedly sustained an injury to his Achilles during the team’s 77th Old Timers Day game, according to a team spokesperson.

Former Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was the first to mention Rivera’s injury during a WFAN broadcast of the game. “It was a fun day when I just heard about Mariano. Mariano hurt his Achilles,” Clemens said, adding, “I think he’s in the hospital now.”

Rivera had been a standout during the Old Timers Day festivities, which celebrated the Yankees’ 2000 World Series win over their rivals, the New York Mets. Rivera, Clemens, and Andy Pettitte were all crucial members of that championship team.

In 2019, Rivera made history by being the first player to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame unanimously.

Rivera also recently expressed support for former President Donald Trump during an appearance on WABC Radio. “President Trump, he’s my friend,” Rivera stated, reflecting on their relationship prior to his presidency, and mentioned that he plans to vote for him.

Trump had awarded Rivera the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2019, praising him as “the greatest pitcher of all time.”
