Omar Minaya has been in baseball for decades, beginning his career as a scout for the Texas Rangers before joining the New York Mets in the 1990s as assistant general manager to then-general manager Steve Phillips, where he helped build World Series-caliber teams featuring players like Mike Piazza, Edgardo Alfonzo and Al Leiter.

Minaya ended up becoming GM of the Montreal Expos just before they folded, but he helped lead the team to the playoffs. After the Expos failed to make the playoffs under his management, the Mets hired him as GM in 2005, a position he held until the end of the 2010 season.

During his tenure, the Mets only made the playoffs once, playing in the National League Championship Series against the St. Louis Cardinals but ultimately losing.

Minaya was traded to the San Diego Padres, where he served as senior vice president of baseball operations until 2015, before returning to the Mets again from 2017 to 2022. The Yankees ultimately acquired him before the 2023 season.
