Yankees icon expresses feeling unwelcome by the team despite his celebrated career

Jorge Posada Feels Unwanted by Yankees Organization

Jorge Posada, a legendary figure for the New York Yankees, is feeling somewhat estranged from the team he dedicated 17 years to. Having celebrated numerous victories, including five World Series championships and the honor of having his number retired in Monument Park, Posada’s connection with the organization now seems distant.

Despite the adoration from fans, Posada expresses frustration about the lack of warmth from the Yankees themselves. In a recent conversation, he shared, “I could [be around more], but I don’t think they want me there to tell you the truth. I don’t feel welcome when I go there, you know?” He made these remarks during an interview with the New York Post.

It seems that even in settings like spring training, Posada simply doesn’t feel invited. “I don’t know, I just feel like they don’t want me there, so I don’t go,” he added. Reflecting on his last season, things didn’t conclude well for him as he was shifted from being a full-time catcher to a designated hitter and backup first baseman, leading to some public disagreements with the team.

“I don’t know what happened. I’d rather just move forward. My last season was really tough in terms of managing everything between myself and the Yankees,” he admitted. After retiring in January 2012, Posada mentioned that he had interest from other teams, but the Yankees never reached out.

There was speculation about tension between him and former manager Joe Girardi, but Posada clarified that he has no issues with Girardi and remarked, “I never got a chance to fight for my job.”

This season, Posada was seen at Yankee Stadium on two occasions: once for Old Timers’ Day in August and again during the remembrance of the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks.
