As the reliever market continues to take shape, their competition could come from across town, with the Yankees still interested in reuniting with left-hander Tim Hill.
The Post confirmed that the Mets are also considering a deal with the 34-year-old, who has emerged as a reliable weapon in the Bronx.
The Yankees have some work to do to complete their roster. That includes adding a left-handed pitcher to the bullpen, as well as the possibility of an infielder or backup catcher.
Although they missed out on acquiring Japanese right-hander Roki Sasaki, their rotation is solid.
Still, they have some hands to replace, and right-handed pitcher Tommy has had a strong year after a disappointing Game 5 loss to the Dodgers in the season-ending World Series. – Kahnley is also available.
Left-hander Andrew Chafin and former Met Brooks Lally are also on the radar. Reilly is expected to return from Tommy John surgery, but he won't be ready for the start of the season.
The Yankees further strengthened their minor league bullpen by acquiring right-hander Michael Arias from the Cubs in exchange for cash.
Arias, 23, has some of the hard-throwing traits the Yankees like, and he has helped hone them, especially as a reliever.
Arias split between Chicago's Double-A and Triple-A affiliates last season.
He appeared in 33 games at Triple-A Iowa State and struggled badly with control.
He was drafted by the Cubs on Sunday.
Arias originally signed with Toronto as a shortstop from the Dominican Republic, but was converted to pitcher by the Cubs in 2021, and although he pitches with power, he hasn't been able to capitalize on his pitching.
The deal with Arias leaves the Yankees with 38 players on their 40-man roster.
