The New York Yankees have had all-around star Jazz Chisholm Jr. off the roster for a month, during which he had to be placed on the disabled list.
And this injury may not see him return this season.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters before the team’s game against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday that Chisholm will likely be placed on the disabled list with a torn left UCL.

It is unclear at this time whether surgery will be required to repair the injury.
Baseball players dread the word “injury” with those three letters attached because the UCL is so important to pitching properly, and while Chisholm’s left UCL is not a pitching elbow, the injury could prevent him from swinging from the left side of the plate.
Anthony Volpe says Jazz Chisholm Jr. already brings ‘energy and energy’ to Yankees clubhouse: ‘He’s a great pitcher’
Chisholm entered the game as a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth inning of the Yankees’ loss Monday night in Chicago, scoring on an infield single by Anthony Volpe.
Chisholm was stealing third base with two outs when he saw Volpe’s slow rollerball go between the third baseman and shortstop and began smashing it full force toward home plate to score.
The throw from the White Sox shortstop was hit at goal, but Chisholm’s head slid in and the ball went over the tag and scored, but further examination of the play revealed that Chisholm’s left arm had been caught in the catcher’s cleats, which may have caused the injury.
Chisholm left the game one inning later due to a left elbow injury, which the Yankees described as a “left elbow injury.”
“I didn’t feel it right away because the adrenaline was still going,” Chisholm told fans and the YES Network broadcast after he was seen trying to get his arm in motion after his at-bat. “After an inning went by and I was just sitting there and then I started to feel it a little bit.”

This was the last thing the Yankees wanted to see, even though they strengthened their left-handed hitting arsenal by acquiring Chisholm at the MLB trade deadline last month.
Chisholm also proved to be a good fit at third base, despite never having played that position in his MLB career with the Miami Marlins, and since the trade, he has performed well for New York, batting .316/.361/.702 with a 1.062 OPS, seven home runs, 11 RBIs and 13 runs scored in 14 games.
Chisholm said after the game he was “not overly worried” about the injury, but further tests revealed ligament damage and it remains to be seen whether the player will be kept on the bench for an extended period of time.
While the Yankees and their diehard fans would love to see him back at third base soon, manager Boone must decide how to replace him in the lineup.

The Yankees struggled before Chisholm’s arrival and had a glaring hole at third base, and to fill that hole the team will need to look to players like DJ LeMahieu, Oswaldo Cabrera and maybe Gleyber Torres, all of whom struggled at third base before Chisholm’s arrival.

Cabrera is expected to start at third base in place of Chisholm on Tuesday night as the series against the White Sox continues.
