Yankees’ Juan Soto directs fans’ pleas for him to stay with team Brian Cashman

The Juan Soto trade was a great one for the New York Yankees.

The young superstar is batting .299 with a 1.034 OPS and has already hit a career-high 37 homers. He’s also on pace to break his career high in runs scored, with 108 already this season. With Soto, the Yankees are just ahead of the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.

When he hit back-to-back home runs against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, fans in the Bronx cheered him on and sent a plea to the franchise itself.

“Sign Soto,” Yankees fans chanted.

The Yankees and Soto have expressed a desire to keep the outfielder in pinstripes long-term, but the front office would undoubtedly need to spend big money to make that happen.

Soto seemed pleased with the support, telling reporters to call general manager Brian Cashman.

“I don’t know. They need to talk to Cashman,” he said.

According to MLB.com, Soto was offered a 15-year, $440 million extension in 2022 by the Washington Nationals but turned it down, which resulted in him being traded to the San Diego Padres and then the Yankees.

Soto is still just 25 years old, and keeping him in the Bronx would ensure the team has a powerful hitter at the center of their lineup for years to come.
