Yankees’ Oswald Cabrera Suffered Ankle Injury in Seattle
On Monday night, New York Yankees infielder Oswald Cabrera had to be taken off the field at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park due to a serious ankle injury sustained while running to base.
The incident occurred as the Yankees were close to loading the bases when Aaron Judge’s sacrifice fly prompted Cabrera to dash from third base to home plate. He became entangled as he slid past Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, showing clear signs of distress and pain.
A medical professional immediately attended to Cabrera, and an ambulance was called to the scene. Yankees manager Aaron Boone stated that Cabrera’s left ankle was placed in a brace before he was transported to the hospital.
“I think everyone understands it’s a pretty serious situation,” Boone remarked after the Yankees managed an 11-5 victory. “So I’m just praying for our man tonight and hoping for the best. Trust him to get good care during the night.”
Before leaving the field, Cabrera reportedly asked Judge if he had scored, highlighting his determination even in pain. “It’s just showing you what type of guy he is,” Judge said, reflecting on Cabrera’s competitive spirit amidst the situation.
As for Judge, he had a solid night, going 3-for-3 with doubles and driving in an RBI, maintaining a batting average of .414.
Judge expressed his admiration for Cabrera, saying, “He cares for everyone in this room. He loves being a Yankee,” adding that it was tough for Cabrera, who had finally earned the chance to be a regular player and was excelling at it.
Cabrera has participated in 34 games this season, currently holding a batting average of .243 with 11 RBIs.
