Yankees Bullpen Sees Positive Developments

The Yankees might be struggling at the plate lately, but there are encouraging signs coming from the bullpen.

On Tuesday, Luke Weaver participated in live batting practice ahead of the Yankees’ 4-0 loss to the Bronx Angels.

He threw around 20 pitches to J.C. Eskara and Oswald Peraza. This marks a significant step forward for Weaver, who has been working his way back from a hamstring strain sustained on June 1st.

After the session, Weaver remarked, “It feels good.” He reflected on how the adrenaline during practice can’t quite match that of an actual game, yet he still felt his heart racing.

At 31 years old, Weaver has already completed his second bullpen session since being activated off the 15-day injured list. He is gradually ramping up activity to reduce the risk of re-injury.

He mentioned he hasn’t felt any discomfort in his hamstring and seems to be ahead of schedule compared to the usual 4-6 week recovery timeline.

Manager Aaron Boone described the session as “good,” expressing hope that they’ll be able to make decisions regarding Weaver’s status in the next couple of days based on how he feels post-practice.

Weaver commented on his previous recovery experiences, noting, “Whenever I did something, it had great results. The recovery was very minimal.” Prior to his injury, he was performing impressively, holding a 1.05 ERA across 24 games and 25²/₃ innings, with three runs allowed and 24 strikeouts.

If he needs another live batting session, Weaver aims to ensure his body and mind are in sync, saying, “We’re just trying to avoid compensation. We want our adrenaline to match the intensity.” He emphasized the importance of balancing effort on the mound during a game.
