Yankees player's wife expresses anger at umpire following disputed Astros series

Controversial Umpiring Overshadows Yankees-Astros Series

The New York Yankees recently wrapped up a three-game series against the Houston Astros, winning two out of three games. However, the series sparked debate, particularly around the strike zone called by the umpires. Many fans felt it was inconsistent, leading to frustration.

Ashley Rodon, wife of Yankees pitcher Carlos Rodon, echoed these sentiments. After the game, she took to social media to express her disbelief, stating, “The zone is absolutely horrifying throughout the series….gesh.” She went on to question, “What the hell is this crew wrong?”

Despite the win—Rodon’s 16th victory of the season—the scrutiny on umpire decisions loomed large. The pitcher hit three batters over six innings, navigating a tricky game marked by questionable calls.

Ashley also highlighted the challenges this inconsistency poses for hitters trying to determine the strike zone, remarking, “How are you supposed to know what the zone is as a batter…. Zero consistency.” It’s a valid point, and one that resonates with many players and fans alike.

Another controversial umpire call occurred during the series, igniting further frustration among the Yankees. Astros star Jose Altuve hit a ball that appeared catchable for third baseman Ryan McMahon, who dropped it during what seemed like a routine play. The umpire ruled that McMahon couldn’t secure the catch, leading to more heated discussions about the accuracy of the officiating.

In one particularly tense moment during the second game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone and relief pitcher Devin Williams erupted over a pitch call that they believed should have been ruled a strike. Williams was ultimately ejected for his outburst, and Boone followed suit, visibly upset with the home plate umpire’s decisions.

There was also frustration from other players, such as Jazz Chisholm, who voiced complaints about being called on strikes he believed were unwarranted.

As the Yankees head back to the Bronx, they are set to open a new series against the Toronto Blue Jays, leaving behind the drama-filled series with the Astros.
